The Acan Echinata Acanthastrea echinata is a colorful large polyp stony (LPS). They are found in some intense oranges to intense green and red combinations. The Echinata Coral is the second most popular and sought after of the Acanthastrea species, following the Acan lord A. lordhowensis. Some descriptive names the A. echinata are known by include Echinata Coral, Starry Cup Coral, Artichoke Coral, Pineapple coral, Rainbow Acanthastrea, Rainbow Acan, and Acan Brain Coral.Be aware that Acanthastrea are voracious nocturnal predators and competitively extrude mesenterial filaments and digest organisms within reach. Great care must be taken in determining the placement and distance between Acan Brain Coral colonies. Feed minced meaty foods and zooplankton for best growth and frag recovery time. The use of a quality protein skimmer helps maintain water quality and combat the effects of heavy feeding.
