Collection: Gourami

Gourami, also called anabantids, are hardy fish and friendly aquatic companions, unless they are the Giant Gourami. That particular species will eventually eat everything, and in Thailand people eat them for supper, so what goes around...

In fact there are 133 different gourami species and all have the ability to breath air through a organ similar to a lung and breath under water through their gills. Most gourami have long extensions on their pectoral fins. In the wild gourami use these extensions to feel their way to mates and food in muddy waters. Bettas are listed in a separate collection but even bettas fall within this group of fish.
