Sparkling Gourami

Sparkling gourami, also called dwarf sparkling gourami and pygmy sparkling gourami, adapt to almost all freshwater aquarium conditions and eat flake food. Gourami are not generally schooling fish, but a group of these bright little gems makes a colorful display in the small aquatic setting. The sparkling gourami will only grow to one inch and may be kept with peaceful tank mates, including exotic freshwater shrimp.

Care Guide

Tank setup: Give them a heater, a gentle filter and plenty of plants, including some floating plants for cover. Keep a lid on the tank and leave a gap of air above the water, since gouramis breathe from the surface.

Feeding: Feed a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in a couple of minutes. They also enjoy frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Tankmates: Keep them with small, peaceful fish such as rasboras, small tetras, corydoras and otocinclus. Avoid fin-nippers like tiger barbs and larger, boisterous fish.

Good to know: Sparkling gouramis are also called pygmy croaking gouramis because males make soft croaking sounds when they display to each other.
