Springer's Dottyback: The Striking & Shy Reef Dweller
The Springer's Dottyback (Pseudochromis springeri), also known as the Blue-eyed Dottyback, is a beautiful and unique species that adds a touch of mystery and a splash of color to any marine aquarium. This intriguing fish is easily identified by its deep, velvety black or dark purple body, which is perfectly contrasted by a pair of brilliant electric blue rings around its eyes. Its small size and secretive nature make it a fantastic choice for nano tanks and larger community setups alike. While Dottybacks are known for their territorial nature, the Springer's Dottyback is considered one of the more peaceful species. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, preferring to spend its time darting in and out of the rockwork.
Why the Springer's Dottyback is a Great Choice:
- Striking Coloration: Its deep black body and vibrant blue eyes make it a true showpiece.
- Peaceful with Tank Mates: It is less aggressive than many other dottyback species.
- Completely Reef-Safe: It will not harm corals, clams, or most other invertebrates.
- Unique Behavior: It adds a lot of personality as it explores and guards its territory among the rockwork.
