The striped peacock eel is hardier than the standard peacock eel. These gentle creatures are great inhabitants of medium and large fish aquariums. They require live and frozen food, and will hunt smaller fish and crustaceans, but they only grow to about ten inches and have small mouths, so only half-inch or smaller fish would be prey. Peacock eels get their name from the peacock tail feather pattern of their dorsal fin.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Spiny eels like to burrow, so give them a soft sand bottom, plants and hiding places. They are expert escape artists, so a tight-fitting lid is a must.
Feeding: Feed frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp once a day. Some learn to take sinking pellets.
Tankmates: They are peaceful but will eat very small fish. Keep them with community fish too large to fit in their mouth.
Good to know: Peacock eels have eye-spots along the base of their back fin, like a peacock feather.
