The African Lungfish can live in mud and lie dormant for 10 years without water - amazing creatures. Lungfish require live food such as feeder goldfish and will grow to nearly three feet. In fact, natives of the Congo will place a mud-encrusted block with a lungfish in their hut for eating on a later occasion. These African exotic fish are truly prehistoric and a favorite of public aquariums. This is the perfect pet fish if ever there was one - and you can eat them.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Lungfish breathe air, so they need easy access to the surface and a tight-fitting lid. Give them a soft bottom, hiding places and strong filtration.
Feeding: Feed meaty foods like frozen shrimp, bloodworms and sinking carnivore pellets.
Tankmates: Lungfish will eat any fish that fits in their mouth and can be aggressive. They are best kept alone.
Good to know: African lungfish can survive dry seasons by burying themselves in mud and breathing air.
