The Asians created GloFish® by splicing the genes of zebra danios and hi-fin white skirt tetras and tiger barbs with phosphorescent corals and jellyfish. The fish were patented and licensed for sale in the USA several years ago once the FDA determined them to be safe for the environment. Though these fish do not actually glow in the dark, they are truly fluorescent and will keep that bright color throughout their lifespan. When they breed, even the babies feature the same fluorescence. Spooky. The purple glo barb is the newest invention added to the family.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Give them a filter, a heater and plenty of open swimming space.
Feeding: Feed a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in a couple of minutes. They also enjoy frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Tankmates: Pick fast, sturdy tankmates such as other barbs, danios, loaches, corydoras and larger tetras. Avoid slow, long-finned fish like bettas, angelfish, gouramis and guppies.
Good to know: GloFish colors look brightest under a blue or actinic LED light. They have the same care needs and temperament as regular tiger barbs.
