Lately, the female koi bettas have been getting as much attention as their longer-fin partners. Female bettas, unlike males, can be placed together. In fact, a group of female bettas is called a sorority. Not sure which one; Kappa Kappa Gamma probably. The female koi betta is as appealing as the male, not just for its more gentle disposition, but this variation also offers vivid koi colors. These colorful bettas make a pretty harem. Buy four!

Care Guide
Tank setup: Give them a heater, a filter and lots of plants and hiding places to break up sight lines. Keep a lid on the tank and leave a gap of air under it, since bettas breathe from the surface.
Feeding: Feed a few betta pellets or a pinch of flake once or twice a day. Bettas overeat easily, so small meals are best. They also enjoy frozen bloodworms.
Tankmates: Females can share a tank with small, peaceful fish like corydoras, rasboras and snails. Never add a male to a sorority tank, and avoid fin-nippers.
Good to know: Females color up when relaxed. In a sorority, watch for bullying and remove any female that is constantly chased.
