Trifasciatus Rainbowfish, or three banded rainbowfish, are found in small rivers and ponds and billabongs (there is that word again!) around Australia. The Banded Rainbowfish grows to nearly five inches and prefers a planted aquarium. These are active swimmers and also prefer to swim in schools which is a fantastic feature in a large freshwater aquarium. Colors vary depending upon food, water conditions, and presence of females (males always display their fins and colors better with ladies around).  AquariumFish.com ships a even ratio of males and females. Upon special request we can ship only males but we would have to charge twice the price. But unless you are just trying to match an unpaired female we highly recommend a few pairs of the Australian wonders.

One note on the colors - depending on the river these fish can vary in the amount of reds and yellows. Common harvesting rivers include Blyth River (more red), Goyder River (more yellow), and of course tank raised (banding more pronounced and coloration dependent on food and water conditions). We source the fish from the best available supplier at the time.
