Melas Angelfish: The Hardy & Distinctive Dwarf Angelfish
The Melas Angelfish (Centropyge tibicen), also known as the Keyhole Angelfish, is a popular and very beneficial member of the dwarf angelfish family. This angelfish is instantly recognizable by its beautiful, deep black body, which is dramatically contrasted by a prominent white vertical bar that resembles a keyhole just behind its pectoral fins. It is an active and graceful swimmer that requires plenty of hiding places to feel secure. While it is generally peaceful, it can be territorial towards other dwarf angelfish and should be the only one of its kind in a tank. It is considered reef-safe with caution, meaning it may occasionally nip at soft corals or clam mantles, especially if not well-fed.
Why the Melas Angelfish is a Great Choice:
- Stunning Appearance: Its unique coloration and distinctive pattern make it a true showpiece.
- Adds Energy to the Tank: It adds a lot of energy and graceful movement to a spacious aquarium.
- Compact Size: Its small size makes it a perfect fit for a variety of reef and marine tanks.
- Reef-Safe with Caution: It can be successfully housed in many reef tanks if well-fed and monitored.
