Vampire Crab (Consortium of 4)

If the tank is large at all, with lots of hiding places, a group of four vampires might be best to ensure a couple can be spotted at any time. A group will need to be fed a small amount once per day of blood worms or similar foods. But they can go for a bit without feeding; these crabs are great scavengers.

Tank setup: These crabs need land as well as water. Use a paludarium or a tank with a large land area and a shallow water section. Keep a tight lid on the tank, since they are escape artists.

Feeding: Feed sinking pellets or shrimp food once a day. They also eat vegetables and small bits of fish food.

Tankmates: They are best kept in a species-only setup, since they may catch small fish.

Good to know: Vampire crabs get their name from their glowing yellow or purple eyes. They hide a lot, so more hiding places mean more confident crabs.
