Purple Dottyback: The Brilliant Burst of Color
The Purple Dottyback (Pseudochromis porphyreus), also known as the Strawberry Dottyback, Magenta or Orchid Dottyback, is a vibrant and popular species that adds a splash of brilliant color and active movement to any marine aquarium. This stunning fish is easily identified by its solid, brilliant magenta or fuchsia body, which lacks any stripes or spots. Its small size and bold coloration make it a fantastic choice for nano tanks and larger community setups alike. While Dottybacks are known for their territorial nature, the Purple Dottyback is considered one of the more peaceful species, generally coexisting well with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, preferring to spend its time darting in and out of the rockwork.
Why the Purple Dottyback is a Great Choice:
- Striking Coloration: Its brilliant magenta and purple hues make it a true showpiece.
- Peaceful with Tank Mates: It is less aggressive than many other dottyback species.
- Completely Reef-Safe: It will not harm corals, clams, or most other invertebrates.
- Active Swimmer: It adds a lot of energy and personality as it explores rockwork and crevices.
