Rainbowfish are active swimmers that often school near the surface of the aquarium. Depending on the species, their size can vary significantly — from the delicate Pseudomugil species such as Threadfin and Forktail Rainbows that grow to around 1.5 inches, to the larger Melanotaenia varieties such as Boesemani and Turquoise Rainbows that can reach 4 inches in length.
Every species of Rainbowfish thrives in community aquariums and does well with other peaceful fish such as Tetras, Rasboras, and Corydoras. Their gentle nature, combined with their stunning coloration, makes them one of the most rewarding fish families to keep.
