XL Green Star Polyp Colony: A Vibrant, Fast-Growing Soft Coral

The XL Green Star Polyp Colony is an impressive soft coral featuring a dense mat of brilliant green polyps that create a flowing, grass-like appearance under reef aquarium water movement. Known for its intense coloration, movement, and hardy nature, Green Star Polyps are one of the most recognizable and visually striking soft corals in the reef hobby.

This WYSIWYG specimen is an exceptionally large, established colony growing across a substantial piece of rock. When fully extended, hundreds of bright green polyps create a dense field of color and movement, making this colony an immediate centerpiece rather than a small frag that needs time to grow in.

Green Star Polyps are photosynthetic and receive the majority of their nutritional requirements from symbiotic zooxanthellae. They are also well known for their rapid growth once established. Because they can spread across neighboring rockwork, many reef keepers choose to place GSP colonies on isolated rocks or areas where their growth can be easily managed.

Diet & Compatibility:

• Diet: Primarily photosynthetic. Green Star Polyps receive most of their energy through symbiotic zooxanthellae but can also absorb nutrients and small suspended food particles from the water column.
• Feeding: Direct feeding is generally not required. Occasional broadcast feeding with fine coral foods may support growth but is optional under appropriate reef lighting.
• Reef Compatibility: Reef Safe, although its rapid growth should be considered when choosing placement. Green Star Polyps can spread onto nearby rockwork and potentially compete for space with neighboring corals.
• Temperament: Generally peaceful but highly competitive for space due to its fast-growing encrusting mat.
• Placement: Can be placed on the sand bed or rockwork. Placement on an isolated rock is often preferred when the aquarist wants to control its spread.
• Water Requirements: Maintain stable reef conditions and avoid rapid changes in salinity, temperature, alkalinity, or other major parameters.
