Fiji Green Brain Coral: A Classic High-Impact LPS

The Fiji Green Brain Coral is a striking Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant green coloration, fleshy appearance, and classic brain-like structure. Originating from the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, Fiji brain corals make an impressive centerpiece on the lower portions of a reef aquarium.

This WYSIWYG specimen displays rich green coloration that becomes especially vivid under blue-spectrum reef lighting. Its fleshy tissue expands over its hard calcium carbonate skeleton, creating the ridged and folded appearance that gives brain corals their name.

Fiji Green Brain Corals are photosynthetic and receive much of their energy from symbiotic zooxanthellae within their tissue. However, they are also capable feeders and may extend feeding tentacles—particularly during the evening or after food enters the water. With stable reef parameters, appropriate lighting, and occasional supplemental feeding, they can maintain excellent coloration and gradually develop into an impressive specimen.

Diet & Compatibility:

• Diet: Mixotroph. Primarily photosynthetic but also capable of capturing meaty foods from the water column.
• Feeding: Supplemental target feeding can support growth and tissue development. Offer small portions of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped marine foods, or quality coral foods approximately 1–2 times per week. Feeding is easiest when the coral's feeding tentacles are extended.
• Reef Compatibility: Reef Safe, but should be given adequate space from neighboring corals. Brain corals can use sweeper or feeding tentacles and may sting nearby corals.
• Temperament: Peaceful toward fish and mobile invertebrates but potentially territorial toward neighboring corals.
• Placement: Best positioned on the sand bed or lower rockwork where its fleshy tissue cannot be damaged by sharp surrounding rocks. Moderate, indirect water movement is preferred rather than strong flow directly against the tissue.
• Water Requirements: Maintain stable reef conditions with consistent alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. Avoid rapid swings in salinity, temperature, or nutrient levels. Moderate reef lighting is generally appropriate.
