Vlamingi Tang: The Majestic & Elegant Algae Grazer
The Vlamingi Tang (Naso vlamingi), also known as the Bignose Unicornfish, is a majestic and highly sought-after fish for the dedicated aquarist with a very large marine aquarium. This tang is easily identified by its unique coloration: a deep blue or purple body adorned with numerous bright blue spots, a vibrant blue line that extends from its eye to the end of its mouth, and a prominent "horn" on its forehead that becomes more pronounced with age. While it is generally peaceful with most other species, it can be territorial towards other tangs. As a herbivore, it is a fantastic algae-eater, making it a valuable and hardworking member of any clean-up crew. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.
Why the Vlamingi Tang is a Great Choice:
- Majestic Appearance: Its distinctive coloration and prominent "horn" make it a true showpiece.
- Excellent Algae Control: It tirelessly grazes on nuisance algae, helping to keep the tank clean and healthy.
- Completely Reef-Safe: It will not harm corals, clams, or other invertebrates.
- Active Swimmer: It adds a lot of energy and graceful movement to a very large aquarium.
