Unicorn Tang: The Horned Majestic Grazer
The Unicorn Tang (Naso unicornis) also called the Blue Spine Unicornfish, is a large and very active species that adds a touch of elegance to any very large marine aquarium. This magnificent tang is instantly recognizable by the prominent, forward-facing horn-like projection on its forehead, which gives it its unicornfish name. Its graceful body is typically a mix of olive, gray, and brown tones, and it features two brilliant blue "scapel-like" spines at the base of its tail. The Unicorn Tang is a non-stop swimmer, gliding gracefully through the water column, and is a tireless algae grazer, making it a valuable part of the cleanup crew. Its generally peaceful nature and stunning visual presence make it a fantastic centerpiece for a well-established, spacious reef tank.
Why the Unicorn Tang is a Great Choice:
- Unique Appearance: Its iconic "horn" and bright blue tail spines make it a true conversation starter and centerpiece.
- Graceful & Majestic: Its large size and elegant swimming style add a commanding presence to the tank.
- Natural Algae Control: It constantly grazes on algae, helping to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
- Peaceful Temperament: It is generally non-aggressive with other fish, making it a great community tank addition.
