Three Striped Damselfish: A Bold & Hardy Damselfish
The Three Striped Damselfish (Dascyllus aruanus), also known as the Humbug Damselfish or Whitetail Damselfish, is a popular and exceptionally hardy species that adds a touch of bold contrast to any marine aquarium. Its striking appearance features a white body with three distinct black vertical bands. This species is well-regarded for its resilience and active personality, making it a great choice for beginner aquarists. It is generally a reef-safe inhabitant, leaving corals and invertebrates alone.
Why the Three Striped Damselfish is a Great Choice:
- Bold Coloration: Its iconic black-and-white pattern makes it a striking and attractive inhabitant.
- Highly Hardy: This species is incredibly resilient and easy to care for, making it a perfect first fish for a new tank.
- Reef-Safe: The Whitetail Damselfish is generally safe to keep with corals and invertebrates.
- Engaging Behavior: Its active and alert nature makes it a rewarding fish to watch.
Important Note: The Three Striped Damselfish can be more territorial and semi-aggressive than other damselfish, especially as it matures. It is best to introduce it to the tank last and to avoid keeping it with very shy or passive fish.
