Thompson's Tang: The Peaceful & Active Algae Grazer
The Thompson's Tang (Acanthurus thompsoni), also known as Thompson's Surgeonfish, is a great choice for any spacious and well-established marine aquarium. This tang is easily identified by its slender, torpedo-shaped body that is a uniform dark brown or gray color. Unlike many of its more territorial cousins, the Thompson's Tang is generally a peaceful fish, making it a fantastic addition to a community tank with other non-aggressive species. As a herbivore, it is a fantastic algae-eater, making it a valuable and hardworking member of any clean-up crew. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.
Why the Thompson's Tang is a Great Choice:
- Generally Peaceful: It coexists well with other fish, making it a great community tank addition.
- Excellent Algae Control: It tirelessly grazes on nuisance algae, helping to keep the tank clean and healthy.
- Completely Reef-Safe: It will not harm corals, clams, or other invertebrates.
- Active Swimmer: It adds a lot of energy and graceful movement to a spacious aquarium.
