GloFish were created in Asia by splicing the genes of zebra danios and hi-fin white skirt tetras and tiger barbs with phosphorescent corals and jellyfish. The fish were patented and licensed for sale in the USA several years ago once the FDA determined them to be safe for the environment. Though these fish do not actually glow in the dark, they are truly fluorescent and will keep that bright color throughout their lifespan.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Give them a heater, a filter, plants and open swimming space. A dark substrate and background make the colors pop.
Feeding: Feed a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in a couple of minutes. They also enjoy frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Tankmates: GloFish tetras get along with most peaceful community fish of similar size, such as other tetras, danios, rasboras, corydoras and livebearers. Keep them in a group so they don't nip the fins of slow, long-finned fish like bettas.
Good to know: GloFish colors look brightest under a blue or actinic LED light, but they are colorful under normal lighting too. Mixing colors in one school creates the best display.
