Two characteristics of the silvertip tetra are that the color pattern gets bolder with golds and silvers as the fish matures, and these patterns are even more obvious when the fish is in a school.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Give a school at least 20 gallons with plants along the back and sides, open swimming space in front and a dark substrate, which brings out their color. Keep a lid on the tank, since tetras can jump. Change about 25% of the water every week.
Feeding: Feed a quality flake or micro pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in about two minutes, plus frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworms a few times a week.
Tankmates: They get along with most peaceful community fish of similar size, such as other tetras, rasboras, danios, corydoras, dwarf cichlids, gouramis and livebearers.
Good to know: Tetras feel safer and show better color in a group. A larger school also spreads out any chasing.
