Red Snyder Goby: The Secretive & Petite Nano-Reef Star

The Red Snyder Goby (Priolepis cincta), also widely known as the Girdled Goby or Banded Reef Goby, is a tiny, captivating fish that is an ideal choice for peaceful nano and reef aquariums. This goby boasts a beautifully intricate pattern of thin, reddish-brown vertical bands against a lighter tan body, providing excellent camouflage.

Unlike many gobies that sift sand or swim openly, the Red Snyder Goby is extremely shy and secretive. It is a perching fish, requiring plenty of live rock, caves, and overhangs where it will spend most of its time hidden, often seen resting upside down on cave ceilings. Its Very Peaceful nature means it must only be housed with docile tank mates to ensure it gets enough food.

Why the Red Snyder Goby is a Great Choice:

  • Stunning Appearance: Its vibrant coloration and intricate pattern make it a true showpiece.
  • Nano-Tank Compatible: Its diminutive size (max 3 inches) makes it perfect for tanks 20 gallons and up.
  • Unique Behavior: Offers fascinating, secretive perching behavior rarely seen in other species.
  • Reef-Safe: It poses zero threat to corals, clams, or other invertebrates.
