TheĀ Purple Square Anthias (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia), also known as the Pink Square, Squareback or Squarespot Anthias, is a beautiful and active species that adds a touch of elegance and a mesmerizing schooling effect to any marine aquarium. This magnificent anthias displays a striking sexual dimorphism: males feature a vibrant purple or magenta body with a prominent, square-shaped spot of the same color behind their pectoral fins. Females are equally beautiful with a more subdued yellow-orange coloration. The Purple Square Anthias is a very active, open-water swimmer that prefers to be kept in a group, which creates a breathtaking visual display. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, making it a fantastic addition to a community tank.
