Otocinclus, or oto, are small, hardy, peaceful, and very active in the aquarium. These fish are great scavengers and do a nice job controlling film algae. In fact, these are the most popular wild species for algae control and will get along with any fish that can't eat it, including exotic shrimp. AFS recommends a small school of these fish for any community tank. You will be amazed by their work ethic.

Tank setup: Give them a mature, planted tank with algae to graze, gentle filtration and stable, clean water.
Feeding: Otocinclus graze on soft algae, but don't rely on algae alone. Also feed algae wafers.
Tankmates: Otos are very peaceful and get along with almost any small community fish, plus shrimp and snails.
Good to know: Otos are social and feel safest with others of their kind. Make sure there is algae or algae wafers available, since they can go hungry in very clean tanks.
