The hi-fin banded shark, also called the high fin banded shark, has its origin in China and grows to nearly three feet, so it is a popular aquarium fish and, due to its size, a popular pond fish. These fish are actually catfish and are very peaceful. The high fin banded shark features a dramatically high dorsal fin. New season, so these are still on the small side.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Hi-fin banded sharks are coldwater fish that grow to over three feet, so they are best kept in a large outdoor pond. Juveniles can live in a large, cool, well-oxygenated aquarium with smooth gravel and good filtration while they are small.
Feeding: Feed sinking pellets and algae wafers daily. In a pond they also graze algae and scavenge.
Tankmates: In a pond they get along with koi and goldfish. In an aquarium, keep them with other peaceful coldwater fish.
Good to know: Hi-fin banded sharks change dramatically as they grow: juveniles have tall sail-like fins and bold bands, while adults become long-bodied and reddish. They are protected in their native China.
