Gardneri Killifish

The gardneri killifish is a brightly colored gem from West Africa. These peaceful fish are great additions to a community tank or planted aquarium. Females are not as colorful as the males but still display some nice polka dots. Gardneri killifish are egg layers and will breed under the right conditions.

Care Guide

Tank setup: Use a planted tank with soft, slightly acidic water, a dark substrate, gentle filtration and floating plants. Killifish are expert jumpers, so a tight-fitting lid is a must.

Feeding: Feed small amounts of a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day. They also enjoy frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Tankmates: Killifish do well with small, peaceful fish like tetras, rasboras, corydoras and other killifish of similar size. Avoid fin-nippers and large fish. Keep one male per tank unless the tank is large, since males may spar.

Good to know: Killifish are egg-layers that spawn readily in plants or spawning mops, and their eggs can be hatched separately.
