Angelfish are a hardy, popular species found in rivers all throughout South America, primarily the Amazon River and its tributaries. This family of aquarium fish all have the tall, wing-size fins giving the fish their namesake. Full black angels are bred to show a smoky to solid dark black body and fins, which makes a remarkable contrast in a planted aquarium. Our black angelfish are captive-bred in the USA and in Taiwan.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Angelfish are tall fish, so choose a tall tank: at least 30 gallons for one or two, and 55 gallons or more for a group. Add tall plants or driftwood, a heater and a gentle filter. Change about 25% of the water every week.
Feeding: Feed a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in about two minutes. Add frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp and mysis a few times a week.
Tankmates: Choose peaceful fish too large to swallow, such as larger tetras, corydoras, plecos, rams, gouramis and peaceful barbs. Avoid fin-nippers like tiger barbs, and small fish like neon tetras that adult angels may eat.
Breeding: Angelfish pair off and lay eggs on flat surfaces like broad leaves or slate. A breeding pair can become territorial, so give them room and places for other fish to retreat.
Good to know: In a group, two angelfish often pair off and claim part of the tank. If a pair forms and starts chasing the others, give them more room or rehome the extras.
