Convict Tang: The Peaceful & Hardworking Algae Grazer
The Convict Tang (Acanthurus triostegus), also known as the Convict Surgeonfish, is a popular and very beneficial addition to a marine aquarium. This tang is easily identified by its unique pattern: a light gray or white body with five to six prominent black vertical stripes that give it a "convict" look. While many tangs are known for their aggression, the Convict Tang is generally peaceful with other species, making it an excellent community tank resident. As a herbivore, it is a fantastic algae-eater and is a valuable part of any clean-up crew. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.
Why the Convict Tang is a Great Choice:
- Unique Appearance: Its distinctive striped pattern makes it a standout fish.
- Excellent Algae Control: As a herbivore, it helps keep nuisance algae in check.
- Completely Reef-Safe: It will not harm corals, clams, or other invertebrates.
- Generally Peaceful: It coexists well with other fish, making it a great community tank addition.
