Bluefin Damselfish: The Transforming & Aggressive Staple

The Bluefin Damselfish (Neoglyphidodon melas), often called the Blue-streak Damselfish, is a well-known and hardy species with a dramatic transformation from its juvenile to its adult form. As a juvenile, this damselfish is highly prized for its striking jet-black body with a vibrant, electric-blue stripe running along its back. It is important to note that as this fish matures, it loses its brilliant blue stripe and becomes a solid black or dark gray, while also becoming highly aggressive and territorial. For this reason, it is best suited for an aquarium with more assertive or larger tank mates. It is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.
