Black & White Heniochus Butterflyfish
The Black & White Heniochus Butterflyfish (Heniochus acuminata), also known as the Longfin Bannerfish, features a white body with two bold, vertical black bands and a distinctive, exceptionally long dorsal fin that flows gracefully as it swims. Unlike many other butterflyfish, this species is known for its relatively peaceful temperament, making it an excellent candidate for a community tank. This is known as a bannerfish and there are a few very similar varieties. The very very fist bannerfish was discovered by Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus, but the prize for the "acuminata" species goes, once again, the that great zoologist Georges Cuvier in 1816.
Why the Heniochus Butterflyfish is a Great Choice:
- Elegant Appearance: Its bold black and white pattern and long fin make it an attractive and eye-catching inhabitant.
- Generally Peaceful: It is a great community fish that can coexist with a variety of other species without issues.
- Hardy and Active: This species is a resilient fish that will constantly swim and forage, adding life and energy to your tank.
- Generally Reef-Safe: While its behavior should be monitored, this species is less likely to harm corals than other butterflyfish, making it a viable option for many reef tanks.
