Generally, barbs are mid-size schooling fish. They are slightly more aggressive than tetras, and larger barbs can handle mid-size African cichlid tanks. They are also hardy and offer a lot of movement in the tank. Tiger barbs are the most prolific barb in the aquarium hobby, in part due to their hardiness and also their low price.

Care Guide
Tank setup: Give them a filter, a heater and plenty of open swimming space.
Feeding: Feed a quality flake or small pellet once or twice a day, only as much as they eat in a couple of minutes. They also enjoy frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Tankmates: Pick fast, sturdy tankmates such as other barbs, danios, loaches, corydoras and larger tetras. Avoid slow, long-finned fish like bettas, angelfish, gouramis and guppies.
Good to know: Tiger barbs nip fins mostly when kept in small numbers. Keeping them in a group keeps the chasing within the school.
